A Way of Escape

Here's what I read today: Numbers 30:1-16. It discusses the regulations God gave Moses concerning relationships between husband and wife, or between father and daughter if she is home and unmarried. It really made me smile a little and wish we weren't so impulsive too!!

Here is a sample of what I read:
"If a young woman makes a vow to the Lord or a pledge under oath while she is still living at her father's home, and her father hears of it but says nothing, then all of her vows and pledges will stand. But if her father refuses to let her fulfill the vow then all of her pledges and vows become invalid."
"Now suppose a young woman takes a vow or makes and impulsive pledge and later marries. If her husband learns of her vow or pledge and raises no objections on the day he hears of it, her vows/pledges stand. If he refuses to accept her vow or impulsive pledge on the day he hears of it, he nullifies her commitments and the Lord will forgive her." These were both from the New Living Translation.

I chuckle a little as I read this because we women can be just that - impulsive. In this part of scripture I do not notice an out for the young man, just the young woman. Isn't it comforting to know God gives us a way of escape. Whew! I know we have a much better deal today than the people of the Old Testament. We can immediately turn to our Father God and ask for forgiveness, He has provided a way of escape when we get ourselves into a mess. I find this passage of scripture to be comforting for some reason. I know the "modern" woman should not NEED a man or NEED rescuing (according to women's rights activists). I believe God's ways ARE better than our ways and so that means HE sees a need to cover us with a way of escape. I GLADLY accept His provision! I don't know how or if this will speak to anyone like it did me, I felt precious and prized in my Abba Father's sight. Maybe someone needed the encouragement to trust your earthly father or to trust your husband's opinion on a matter. Whatever the case, I felt I needed to share this simple 'Aha' moment with you! Be blessed!!
