This is the way we build a FlRE...?

We've had fire places before. We've even used them! But they've used gas. This was our first fire with the kids and our first time to "build" a fire. I guess we are laughing about this??

We first began with fresh logs and a few starter pieces of paper.
That didn't work.
More paper strategically placed..
Nope! Didn't work but looked good for about 1 minute.

Then our best go was when hubby used a flame starter that will remain nameless because I think it was NOT a safe choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looked good for 2 minutes??
We gave up on night one. Hubby went to buy the fire starter logs MADE for use in a fire place and boy did that little starter burn... The wood didn't!
Second starter log... we never had a fire people!!
I hope you all enjoyed our lesson in how to NOT build a fire! :) The weather sure is perfect for a fire - if only....

I remember many poor fire starting here too....and then we converted our fireplace to a gas-burning. =)

We have two fireplaces in our house: one gas and one traditional. We've never used either because, frankly, I'm too chicken. Kudos to you and your family for even trying.

Hilarious! Channing has tried to persuade me to let him build a fire, but I keep nixing the idea. We have no clue how to build one either! I'm waiting until we actually purchase the gas logs! Kudos for trying!! The pictures are pretty. :)

We've only had gas fireplaces before. Seems like a lot of trouble! it's easier to flip a switch, I think.

I wonder if it has to do with the flu and if it's open or not? I know we had that happen where it wouldn't stay burning and we realized that had something to do with it. Just a thought to help you keep those "home fires" burning. Ha!

Hi! I'm new to your blog (I think):) I have you marked as a blog that I wanted to read but I don't remember where I came across your name. :)
Anyway... this made me laugh. The first winter my parents lived in their new house they didn't know how to use their coal stove. They got it fired up but didn't know how to control the heat coming out of it. It was 20degrees outside and 98+inside. They melted candles that were on the counter in the same room... and the next room over. Oh, that still makes me laugh. I hope you get your fireplace figured out soon!
