Fire Safety

JB and HC had their first Fire Safety lesson yesterday! We were in a Fire Safety House in this photo. They were listening to the real live fireman talk and then watched a cute video about the smoke alarm. Then came the smoke. They got low to the ground and crawled to safety.
Then they practiced sleeping and rolling off their bed to crawl out of the window to safety.
Here is HC after she climbed down the ladder.
JB was next - can you imagine a two story home. I was worried watching them climb over this small ledge.
The fireman's gear ready and waiting.
More stuff and hoses.
Real live firemen sleep here! HC and JB were so loving this fun time!
Although by this point, they were more hungry than interested in learning more.
Here is a glimpse of SOME of our Home School group. This is mostly the preschoolers. A few older ones were with us too, but the majority were 5 and under.
One of the teens from our Home School group had the chance to dress in the gear!!
And he even tried on the mask and used the oxygen tank. I was so glad they did this because I wanted HC and JB to see how firemen may look if we were ever in an emergency.
Some days the sun is so bright it is tough to get the kids looking up! They had a blast!

After our lesson in safety, we walked over to an adjacent park and had lunch. The kids played and thought this day was one of the best "school days" of the year! We are really blessed to be able to go to ALL the events we've attended this year. HC really learned from this event. She told Daddy all about how you have to get low and crawl to your window if there is a fire. Soon after practicing what she learned, she became afraid of her room. I was glad that the fear left her once we stopped talking about the fire. Our next goal is to help her clearly understand that in an emergency we call 911 and not 991. We also need to teach her our phone numbers and address. The fireman asked "Does anyone know their address? Does anyone know where they live?" My HC said "Yes! We live in (she named the city and state with pride)" Unfortunately that wasn't the right answer! :) I guess I have some work to do. At least they would know what city to begin searching door to door for us!

What a great co-op activity. They were really thorough! Looks like the kids really enjoyed it.

When I taught school, this day was always a favorite of our kids (and me too!). Glad your kiddos had fun and learned a lot!
As for teaching HC her address, I copied Pastor Chris and made up a song. That made it really easy. :):)
Have a great Saturday! :):)

Jamie Foster told me today how much she loved your little one, JC, when you guys were hear. It was interesting to see how much I know about you 100s of miles away and you were right here and we never met! Take care.
