We need more long weekends here in America! We really had fun yesterday. It has been a while since we've been to a park. Our temps have been scorching and not worth the effort to go outdoors. We have great parks here and it was sad not using them, over the last month or two. My kids were so ready to run, explore and play.
Our weekend was mostly the same old same old, until Monday! Saturday was grocery shopping and getting out of the house (a fun trip to Target and lunch). I was sporting a headache, that I didn't shake from Friday, so I wasn't up for much extra. Sunday - the usual. Then Monday we did EVERYTHING we wanted to do all weekend. It was so fun to let loose and play with the kids.
We went to our favorite park and the kids played on the playground area for not even 1 minute when we hear 'We want to go to the creek now!'. I was hoping the creek was still wet. We've been in drought mode for some time now and it was possible the creek was another dry dead area. To our surprise, the creek was still wet!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPEEE!! The kids carefully walked across the little concrete area a few times and then SPLAT! They were wet and laughing (after we told them they were ok - at first they weren't pleased with the wet droopy clothes). I was so proud of JB. Our past visits have left him wet and scared to go near the creek. But now he is so brave. We held his hand to walk him on the concrete area one time and then he just took off. He wouldn't put his toes in the dirt but he had plenty of fun where he was. My little social butterfly, aka HC, was all about making friends and making them fast. She found two older girls and one shared her name. They became instant friends. Once we decided we needed to get our two out of the creek - they followed us to the playground. They didn't want our time together to end. It was great! (Oh by the way, by the time we left our kids were soaked!)
We then left the park and began our journey home. Then we decided - WE NEED ICE CREAM!! We took the kids for ice cream. Our local shop offers a free baby cone to kids - thank God for that! My HC loves ice cream. She could eat herself sick if given free reign. My son. He isn't a fan. He wasn't pleased with our ice cream stop. He wanted to go home. They were so tired. But once he saw HC's ice cream cone COVERED with sprinkles. He wanted one too. I only wish I would have thought to ask for 'just sprinkles'. No ice cream and No cone! Just sprinkles please. He was livid when he realized that stinking ice cream was with each bite! We did get a little bowl of sprinkles for him and he was finally happy.
Off to the house, the kids bathed and took naps while I washed the covers to their car seats. They smelled of creek. Need I say more? (Hubby vacuumed my van for me!) So, once I finished scrubbing the plastic parts of the car seats and put them back together, JB comes peeking in. Now, hubby decided to mow the lawn. He took JB out back to gather their mowers and, as HC would say, 'they began mowering'. HC wakes up and we go out back for more play. It wasn't hot at all! It was so pleasant!! We were finally able to enjoy our yard without needing a shower after. The kids had a snack and we decided to go for a walk. We pulled out the wagon, and off we went. The kids had a blast. We used to walk ALL the time at our house in Baton Rouge, but we haven't lived in a subdivision with a sidewalk since moving here. It was great to get out and walk. It may have been JB's first walk with us. After 2 strolls around the block we came home.
All this time, our dinner was cooking. We decided for a different Labor Day celebration. We decided to get a turkey and have an early Thanksgiving. It was DELICIOUS!!!! We all pitched in on the meal and had fun too! So after our walk, we had finishing touches for dinner. The kids were eager for dinner and gobbled it up. Hubby and I enjoyed having such a full meal and relaxed. What a great labor day! It was full of fun and some work, but at the end of the day - we all had a great time together. It is great that we can enjoy the work and play with our family. I hope this never changes!

What an amazing day! I love the lawn mowing picture. It is so cute to see little ones follow in dad's footsteps!
fun day! i'm still scared to tackle a turkey. maybe you can teach me :)
What a fun day! It sure beats mine taking care of a tonsillectomy patient. We have a creek like that near us, too. We love to play in it with the dog.
The pics are just fabulous!
Tallie, turkeys are a piece of cake! Don't be scared!
Oh, the water looks so refreshing and the meal looks delicious!!
What a great day!
(the picture of your neighborhood makes me homesick for my house...actually, it looks like you live in my neighborhood!!!)
Now I'm really hungry - I haven't even had breakfast yet!
What a great weekend you had - I love the picture of them 'mowering'!!!!
I tagged you for something today!!
My favorite days are those when we just enjoy each other as a family.
I loved the pic of your son with his lawn mower following his Daddy. My youngest just started doing this. Ahhhh...the memories!
Ya'll look like you had so much fun! That turkey dinner looked wonderful. My birthday was a couple of weeks ago and I baked a ham, which is usually an Easter, or Thanksgiving/Christmas thing for us. My husband loved it. The ice cream story about your son was so cute.
OH that food looks sooooo good! As soon as I quit having babies I'm totally gonna cook food like that! Sounds like a great day. I thought too that two days is not long enough for the weekend, especially when Sundays are so filled with church stuff.
Oh, what a fun day. Dinner looked great too. I loved the pictures of you all enjoying yourselves. Makes you wish for a Monday off every month at least!
Sounds like you had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. Great family times.
