Mary, at Not Before 7, is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday!
Tiny Talk Tuesday is a fun way of remembering the things our kids say. Those things that make us laugh or that mark this time in their lives. Here are the Tiny Talks we've experienced this week:
***********
Lately, HC has been VERY interested in knowing how old ALL her friends are. If they are 5 already she is almost devastated! I have to remind her that there will be kids who will be 4 just like she is when she becomes 5. She will have her turn to be 5 soon enough. I do not know when/how all the excitement built up concerning turning 5 but HC is all about being 5!! For a short time HC would think her friends could not be her friends still if they were already 5 - as though she hadn't made the cut suddenly. Another new development is that she goes around the house and randomly decides to try to touch things she once couldn't reach. Then you hear "MOM!! MOM!! Come fast!! I HAVE to show you something! It is SO important! Hurry Mom!! Hurry!" To only see that she reach a millimeter further on her dresser than she could last week (when she announced a similar emergency). She follows the moment with "Mom, I can reach this far because I am almost 5!" It has been fun watching her excitement build up for her birthday!! Fun times! I just hope her birthday party does not disappoint! I am still not clear as to what we will do for her party this year!! Such a big one, as far as HC is concerned!!
***********
While we visited our cousins in Baton Rouge, a few weeks ago, the most common phrase we heard was (in unison most of the time) "{Insert much giggling and then}I'm JUST JOKING!" They would say something that wasn't true and all say "JUST JOKING!!" The laughter was contagious after this phrase. They thought it was HILARIOUS to say just joking! It was actually funny in person!
***********
A few days ago I was painting HC's fingers and toes and JB took off his sock and shouted "Snowball fight!" as he aimed his stinky socks at us! Of course this drew screams of terror from HC! :) JB has a sense of humor that HC just doesn't appreciate sometimes!!

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary, at Not Before 7, is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday!
Tiny Talk Tuesday is a fun way of remembering the things our kids say. Those things that make us laugh or that mark this time in their lives. Here are the Tiny Talks we've experienced this week:
**********
As I was rocking JB last night he said "You know Mommy, my Daddy is the best Daddy in the world." I said "Yes, he is. What about Mommy?" JB said "Yeah, I sink so." (Gee thanks JB!) :)
**********
We were talking about the LSU baseball game tonight and Steve asked JB "Show Mommy how the pitcher throws the ball." JB picked up his leg and threw an imaginary strike! Boy did he zing it!! Well, HC shouts "Mommy Mommy I will show you how the glover catches the ball." (Um... that would be the catcher my sweet girl - but great try!)
***********
The other night HC and I were singing to my new nephew and then we stopped. Then HC told me "Mom, let's hit the rhythm!!! You know, let's hit the beat!" (that means lets sing again!)

HC: Mom!! {insert smacking lips sound} I have a GaREAT idea! What if we PAINT!! We haven't painted in days and days and days! (According to HC we haven't done much of anything in days and days and days! It is her signature phrase of 2008!!)
HC: Mom, (whispering) I'm still bigger than JB but... let's just not tell him that he is little because it will make him cry. Let's keep that a secret for just us! (Very thoughtful HC)
HC: Mom, I just noticed that JB's Pop bear is bigger than his CooCoo bear. Just like I am bigger than JB. I think that is very interesting. (I see)
JB: Mom, last night when Daddy rocked me... he told HC to wait in her room. Then when he wanted HC to come to my room he said "HC get your butt socks in here". That' so funny Mom - Daddy said Butt Socks! (I think he means buttocks!)
JB: Mom, kisses are yuck! May you stop holding me Mom? (I wish he would let me hug him when I want AND stop wiping my kisses off! Oh well, he's growing up!)

I told the kids yesterday was Memorial Day. I explained that it was a time to be thankful for those in the military who died to keep us safe from the bad guys.
Then I asked HC, "What is Memorial day about?"
HC: It's when the soldiers died on the cross to keep us safe from the bad guys!"
(Well, almost!)
Lately, if you were within ear shot of our home around bed time You would hear the following from JB: "I am not tired! I am NOT tired!" This is usually on a day when he did not take a nap and is moaning around the house because of any teeny inconvenience that dared to cross his path. But do not tell him he is tired!! By all means - the moaning and groaning about random nothingness is not because of that!
After church on Sunday we were walking to our van and heard the following pour out of JB's mouth: "In my class. There was a white boy who was mean at me."
Steve: "Was there a white boy in your class or was the boy wearing a white shirt?!?"
JB: "He was wearing a white shirt Dad."
(Such an easier conversation to follow when it was the green boy! :) haha)
JB has found his humor lately! When he is 'on' he is bound to follow the laughter with:
JB: "HEY, what's all this funny about??!" ie - what are you laughing at?
(Of course he knows he is the one being funny, I think he just likes hearing you say that out loud!!)

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary at Not Before 7 is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday! Visit her blog for more tiny talk!
_____________________________________
After JB sneezed the other day, he said "That's not a burp Mom. It's a bless you."
JB has recently shown himself to be a charmer. He has begun to show a lack of willingness to obey. When we speak forcefully to him regarding his disobedience (as in we raise our voices to show him this is not something we will bend the rule on) he then waits a few seconds. He smiles, and gives us the biggest WINK he can muster! Then he begins giggling and although we KNOW it is best to keep a straight face - he keeps winking until we cannot help it! This has really made life more difficult. He knows he can get us laughing and he is likely to get a softer response. He will also just start laughing hysterically when we correct him too! He is showing us that just because HC has shown us what her independence is like - we haven't seen nothing yet!
His newest thing (the first time we heard this was at the table Sunday when he dropped his lunch on his shirt) is to say "Oh shibbits!" Since Sunday I have heard this phrase at least 10 times! I try to not to freak out or worry too much when I hear words that concern me. For the longest time HC would say (repeatedly) "wicket wicket wicket wicket". It was her favorite word and I would tell her I did not like it. Then one day I googled it, after hearing it on Maggie and the Beast, and found that it was harmless. It is a piece to a game, the little hoops for cricket. She just liked the sound of the word. So, where did shibbits come from?? I do not know (it is eerily similar to a word I hope he isn't trying to say!!!!)! I am sure it will be clear eventually - but for now - JB is showing himself to be quite the charmer at just the right time! OH boy! What are we in for!?! (And he was the one that was so obedient! He used to say "Don't shout me Mommy." - in a please sort of way- if we had to fuss at him.) I thought he was going to be easier on this front. Boy was I wrong!

BO-BO Head
After HC's stitches were complete, they came home tired and drained from the 4 hour adventure. I took the picture of her and she said, in a meek voice, "Mom. Now everyone is going to call me BO-BO head or band aid head. I am not pretty anymore." We told her that wasn't the case but I was so surprised that she had that on her mind already. She is only 4.
I then asked her if any of her friends have said those things to friends when they had owies and she said no. We told her no one would call her that. We told her that her friends would be worried that she was OK. She seemed fine.
That evening Hubby took the kids on a few errands while I continued to recover and HC was frantic looking for a hat. She said "I don't want people to ask me about my head Mom. Dad, if someone asks me about my head, will you answer them? I just don't want to talk about it." Of course he agreed to handle it for her but we reminded her that God had really protected her from being hurt worse and that we are thankful she only has a tiny little cut.
Yesterday was a big day. We went to see friends at a play group. She was crying because everyone would see her and she wasn't pretty anymore. I talked her through it all and I explained that her friends may see it and worry about her but they wouldn't laugh at her. I told her not to worry, everyone would be looking at her beautiful bow and not her band aid. Then she began to cry. "If no one sees my band aid then how will they want to pray for me??" (Do female hormones begin at 4 anyone?) :) I told her they would see her band aid but her friends would not laugh at her.
On our way home from our play group HC says, enthusiastically, "MOM! My friends did NOT call me BO-BO head or band aid head! They didn't say anything at all!!! Can you believe it Mom?" I was glad all went well, but I had no doubt. We have some pretty great friends! I was more amazed at how conscious HC was of her injury and how she felt she wasn't beautiful anymore. I thought this thought process would begin much later in life. It is funny how this event triggered her to care about her appearance already.

Tiny Talk Tuesday *Updated*
The tiny ones are talking around here! Mary of Not Before 7 hosts a weekly Tiny Talk Tuesday. Visit her blog for more entertaining things to read!
HC: Dad. (in a confession like tone) I think I lost my marbles. (after much searching - I wish you could hear the inflection of this next line.)
HC: I have NO idea where I left my marbles!!!! (followed by "why are YOU laughing Mom?" if HC only knew!)
I only wish I would have heard this one with my own ears!!! Last night, while I was grocery shopping, HC said the following to my husband!
HC: God reminded me that you said to clean my room after my nap, but he was talking too soft so I could not hear him.
The other day we decided to do something hubby and I loved doing pre-kids. We were looking (via driving around - not going in) at houses for sale. We stopped at a few houses to take an information flyer.
HC: MOM! (with authority) That is NOT nice to steal every one's papers!! (Hubby and I thought this was hilarious! You had to hear her inflection!)
Words JB uses:
Dad has become "Daiyad" (God help us with this twangy speech! May it be temporary!)
Spot = "Spock"
Yeah = "Yayeeyah"
I need to take better notes of what he says. He says some zingers too! HC's are just hilarious and easier to remember! I will do better!
*Update*
So -ALL morning I've heard about "i wish i could find my marbles mommy! i wish i could find my marble!!!!" This begins to wear on your soul because, like the woman who badgered the judge (in the Bible) my daughter was driving me nuts! So, I finally decided to share a method with HC that I've used many times!!! I told HC about my method - I pray for God to remind me where I put whatever I've lost or whatever I've misplaced. I ask Him to remind me where I last put it or to reveal to me where it was moved.
We walked BACK into HC's room and we looked again. I truly had NO idea what this precious child did with her marbles. We looked in her room and this took a few minutes then I saw them. They had fallen behind her toy box. I looked everywhere on many searches in her room and never saw them until then. I showed HC where they were and we thanked God for opening our eyes to see them! Just thought I would share the end of this tiny talk with you! :)

Tiny Talk Friday
I did not have my tiny talk ready for Tuesday so this is the Friday edition!
The other day we were driving along and the man on the radio says:
Radio: It looks like rain tonight. continues speaking..
HC: MOM, did you hear that?? It looks like rain tonight.
Me: Yes HC. I DID hear that!!
HC: Giggles and smiles a proud smile.
Radio: Talking about Easter - then mentions Resurrection.
HC: MOM, did you hear that? This is Resurrection Sunday!!
Me: Yes HC. I did hear that!
HC: So proud and smiling from ear to ear. She then begins to explain the Resurrection Day to her babies in the seat next to her.
HC glances up and says "I love you Mom". I love you too HC!!!!!!!!!!

After lunch the other day HC stretched (in that I ate too much kind of way) and she said "Mom, I am stuffed out!! I can't eat anymore!" (This has become her way of saying I'm full! I love her twist on common phrases!!)
Yesterday HC was having fun hanging upside down off of my bed. "Look at me Mom! I'm upside down! The bed is upside down, the lamp is upside down,..." Then she sat up and said "Now I'm upside UP!" (Makes sense to me!)
JB was playing with a little boy at the park the other day and HC asked JB to come play with her. JB said, "No stister, I'm pwaying with my brudder now." HC laughing says "JB! He's not your brother! You don't have a brother! He's your cousin silly!!" (Wrong again!! He did have the same name as your cousin, she didn't know his name though!!)
The other day I was reading a book to HC and JB. I told them not to shout out the answer but to raise their hand if they knew the answer. I pointed to the letter A and said "What letter is this?" HC raised her hand and JB says "AHHH". He knows the sound it makes! That's for sure. :) They both usually follow that with "ooga ooga" and then the other one says "Ahh" like in the LeapFrog Movie._______________________________________

Tiny Talk Tuesday
The Snowman, because I like Frosty the snowman and he is really nice. He is nice b/c he takes us wherever we want to go and he melts and we don't get to see him again. And Santa shows us how Frosty can come back. So whenever we cry Santa will bring Frosty back to us.
2. What should daddy buy mommy?
A new computer.
3. What should mommy buy daddy?
An angel.
Cuz too many people were in the way.
5. How does Santa get into our house?
By opening the door.
6. Do you think you've been good so Santa will bring you a present?
Yes. I really would like him over to get a present. It never snows and I really like snow. I would like Santa to bring us snow b/c it is really cold and I have mittens to go in the snow and a hat to go in the snow. I just don't know what is in the snow.
7. What food should we leave for Santa?
Um.. Christmas food. Like that Christmas cookie up there in the cabinet. I really want that today! 8. Will you get to see Santa?
Yes. Soon b/c he is still making toys for us. He is at the North pole making toys for us. He gets tired and sleeps at the north pole. Then he wakes up and still makes toys and then we get him some food b/c he is really hungry.
9. How does Santa make it to all of the houses?
By um.. The reindeers, his sleigh that goes in the snow.
10.Why does Santa wear red?
So he can look like Santa Claus.
11. Tell us a Christmas story (or THE Christmas story)
The angel told Joseph that Mary had a baby. The baby was born. Really really born and Mary named him Jesus. You don't know Him buddy (talking to JB) but I am going to see Him. So, see ya later.

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary at Not Before 7 is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday. You should visit her blog for more details on the contest she is hosting as well!! She is giving away a kids Christmas music CD to one lucky participant!!!
HC: (singing loudly) "Aleese Nabeedab. Aleese Nabeedab. Aleese Nabeedab ...." (I'm not going to try to decipher the rest.) This is her newest favorite song. We played it on our way to buy our Christmas tree. It is Feliz Navidad of course, in case it wasn't clear before.
*****
My favorite thing this year is hearing my HC and JB sing Frosty the Snowman. The song begins and builds up to the point of singing "Frosty the Snowman" and the kids wait for it. Then it comes and they belt out (in full singing voice) "FROSTY THE SNOWMAN". And that is it. They don't know the rest because everytime they sing it, there are different verses. I think it is absolutely precious!!
*****
Overheard HC playing with our Veggie Tale Nativity set.
HC: "Bye, Bye Baby Jesus. Your daddy is going to work! Have a great day Jesus."
*****
Our Veggie Tales Nativity set has a star, that when pushed plays "O little town of Bethlehem". We were listening to the radio and the song (another version) came on. JB shouts "Dat's the Jesus song. Dat's our song for the baby Jesus."

Tiny Talk Tuesday

Mary at Not Before 7 is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday. You should visit her blog for more details on the contest she is hosting as well!! She is giving away a kids Christmas music CD to one lucky participant!!!
I asked HC, my 4 year old daughter, the following questions. I really enjoyed hearing her answers!!
1. Why do we celebrate Christmas?
(Thoughtfully) Cuz, Christmas. O, I don't want to tell you. I will tell you tomorrow.
2. What is your favorite food/treat to eat at Christmas time?
Gingerbread Cookies
3. What would you like for Christmas?
I would like purple stickers and purple cupcakes and a purple teddy bear. That's all I want and a purple cookie and purple cereal. That's what I want for Christmas.
4. What is your favorite Christmas decoration in our house?
The Christmas Tree, I like the trumpet decorations, I like my Christmas tree in my room and JB's Christmas tree in his room.
5. Why do we give presents?
Cuz it's Christmas (with hands up in the air as if that's how it works)
Thanks for sharing these fun questions with us Mary!! I had a blast finding out what HC thought of them. Her answers were so precious. I am glad I have these memories recorded now.

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary at Not Before 7 is the gracious host of Tiny Talk Tuesday. I hope you will visit her site and see what all the little ones are saying today. My tiny talkers are HC - my 4 year old daughter and JB -my 2.5 year old son.
**********
The other morning JB climbed into bed with me and laid down. He then said, 'My feet aren't far away.' Needless to say I was confused. So I asked what he meant. He said, 'Wook, wook at you feet. My feet aren't far away.' He was saying his feet do not reach as far as mine did. He really cracks me up! I was amazed that he had that much understanding, at 2.5 years old, as well as that he noticed where his feet were vs. mine.
**********
The other day JB was telling me about eating Peanut Butter Toast.
JB said, 'My peanut butter toast went down, down, down, down to my poop.'
I asked where should his poop go and he said 'In my diaper.' He knows the answer is 'in the potty' but he didn't say so. I was curious at this new development, he normally says 'In the potty.'
So I asked, "Doesn't your poop go into the potty?"
He said, 'No, it goes in my diaper. I can't poop on potty 'cause I will fall in the potty.'
Hmm.. Maybe we are on to something. Maybe he is afraid of the big potty. That explains his defiant refusal to use said potty.
**********
Daddy: Where are your clothes boy?
JB: I'm nuggad (naked). I not wear my clothes. (He was only wearing his diaper.) This should explain all the recent photos I have of JB in his diaper only.
**********
HC: Yummy! I sure do like these rotten (Ahem... Au Gratin) potatoes.
Thanks for helping me with my siggy Leigh Ann. It is perfect. You are a talented and fun friend! :)

******
During our lesson on the letter Ii, HC had an important question for me -
HC: Mom, why does the little i have a polka dot on it?
******
My daughter is quite the little encourager! When someone does something well, no matter how small the deed, we hear this:
HC: You are such a geniust Mom (Dad, JB)!
******
JB: (While rocking him before bed.) "Mom, you are big and daddy is big and HC is big and I am big. (Long pause) And Nana is big and.. and.. PopPop is the. biggest., and. the. highest. I ever see." My dad is over 6 feet tall and JB loves for PopPop to hold him! I guess now we know why, he likes to see everything he can from up high!

*******
JB was wanting to play a little music and his 'tar', aka guitar, has an Elmo side and a Cookie Monster side. My little man prefers Cookie Monster, so this is a common conversation around our home -
JB: Mom, I don't like Elmo! I don't like Elmo. I want Monster, not Elmo. (guitar)
JB: I want joo (you) to play the tar. Joo play the tar Mom!
*******
I was rocking JB the other night and he pointed at the pictures of him on his wall and said-
JB: That's my JB brothers.
He calls his pictures of himself his brother pictures. Recently any other little boy who plays with him is his brother.
******
Dad: Let's play punch! (Punch = wrestling each other)
JB & HC: I wanna play punch! (with MUCH enthusiasm)
HC: Don't mess up my make-up daddy. Cue dramatic scream - Oh Dad, you messed up my lips (running to the bathroom)
After re-applying her lipstick HC: I'm ready to play punch now!! But don't touch my lips Dad, ok?

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary at NotBefore7 is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday. Please head over to her great blog to see more TTT participants!
My tiny talkers are HC - our 4 year old daughter and JB - our 2.5 year old son! Enjoy!
HC: Look Mom, I'm standing on the clock! (She had found the scale!)
JB: Close you eyes. Close you eyes Mom. You count to nen (ten). Then I go hide in covers and you find me. Count to nen!
We took the kids outside to play a little. It was FINALLY a cloudy day and we did not get sweaty for about 20 minutes after going outside. This was much better than sweating because you dared to open the door. Anyway, the kids were outside, in the backyard, playing a little golf with dad and I hear,
HC: I've got my peter dad! I've got my peter! It's my turn.
Dad: It's a putter HC, not a peter.
HC: Oh. I've got my putter now. It's my turn.
I took the kids to a local indoor space walk place. They also have video games and skeet ball. The works. As we were getting ready to leave, JB finds a game and starts 'playing' it. Then I hear,
JB: I need coins Mom. I need some coins for my game!

Tiny Talk Tuesday
Mary @notbefore7 is hosting Tiny Talk Tuesday - head over to her site to read more!!
A few days ago we were in the store and as we were passing by the feminine hygeine aisle I hear my daughter (4 years old) say- "Look mom, look at these BIG bandaids!"
Yesterday I was teaching HC her last vowel. She is dying to learn to read the letter B. Everyday she asks me to learn B. Well, when I told her it was her last vowel and we were going to learn the letter B next time:
she said - 'I can't wait to have a real teacher Mommy.'
I said - 'I'm your teacher HC'
she said - 'I know Mom, but after you teach me to read, I need a REAL teacher like Mrs. Christina.'
So much for my confidence level! :)
I was using the LeapFrog Fridge Alphabet thing to show HC the difference between H and an I. She always called the I an H, even though she knows it is an I. So we do a few other letters that are similar to our vowels and then I put it away.
Normally the kids call the LeapFrog thing the ABC's. If they ask for ABC's they want the fridge magnet game. But after talking so much about vowels, JB (2.5 years old) comes up to me and says, 'Mom, I need my bowels (vowels) please'. He's learning too! haha
